SERVICES D\u2019E\u0301VALUATION ET DE SURVEILLANCE DES ZONES HUMIDES POUR LES BASSINS TRANSFRONTALIERS EN AFRIQUE AUSTRALE (WeMAST)<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

De par leur importance vitale, les zones humides offrent de nombreux avantages, notamment la re\u0301gulation de l\u2019eau, le pie\u0301geage du carbone et l\u2019habitat de diverses espe\u0300ces. Cependant, ces e\u0301cosyste\u0300mes sont menace\u0301s par les activite\u0301s humaines, le changement climatique et d\u2019autres facteurs. En re\u0301ponse a\u0300 cette situation, GMES & Africa ont lance\u0301 le projet WeMAST (Wetlands Monitoring and Assessment Service for Transboundary Basins in Southern Africa).<\/p>

Responsable du Consortium :<\/strong> Centre de Services Scientifiques d\u2019Afrique Australe pour le Changement Climatique et la Gestion Adaptative des Terres (SASSCAL) – Namibie.<\/p>

Orientation :<\/strong> Le projet vise a\u0300 rendre ope\u0301rationnel le Ge\u0301oportail WeMAST afin de renforcer la gestion des zones humides en Afrique australe, au be\u0301ne\u0301fice des gouvernements, des chercheurs et de l\u2019industrie. Il soutient la prise de de\u0301cision, la planification et la formulation de politiques fonde\u0301es sur des donne\u0301es probantes pour une gestion durable des zones humides.<\/p>

La phase II du projet WeMAST concorde avec l\u2019Agenda 2063 de l\u2019Union africaine et la De\u0301claration d\u2019Abidjan, qui orientent les investissements vers la gestion durable des ressources naturelles et des e\u0301cosyste\u0300mes. Le projet re\u0301pond aux priorite\u0301s politiques et aux strate\u0301gies de la SADC au niveau des ressources en eau, y compris l\u2019utilisation durable et la conservation des re\u0301serves naturelles, la gestion efficace de l\u2019environ- nement, l\u2019e\u0301galite\u0301 des sexes, l\u2019autonomisation des jeunes et la gestion des risques de catastrophe, comme le soulignent les objectifs strate\u0301giques de la Vision 2050 de la SADC.<\/p>

Wetlands are vital ecosystems that provide numerous benefits, including water regulation, carbon sequestration, and habitat for various species. However, these ecosystems are threatened by human activities, climate change, and other factors. In response, GMES and Africa launched the Wetlands Monitoring and Assessment Service for Transboundary Basins in Southern Africa (WeMAST) project.<\/p>

Focus:<\/strong> The project aims to operationalize the WeMAST Geoportal to better manage wetlands in Southern Africa, benefiting government, researchers, and industry. It supports evidence-based decision-making, planning, and policy formulation for sustainable wetland management.<\/p>

The WeMAST Phase II action aligns with the African Union\u2019s Agenda 2063 and the Abidjan Declaration, which direct investment towards sustainable management of natural resources and ecosystems. The project addresses SADC policy priorities and strategies in the water sector, including sustainable utilization and conserva- tion of natural resources, effective management of the environment, gender equa- lity, youth empowerment, and disaster risk management, as outlined in SADC Vision 2050\u2019s strategic objectives.<\/p>
