La re\u0301gion de l\u2019Afrique de l\u2019Est constitue l\u2019une des plus expose\u0301es a\u0300 l\u2019inse\u0301curite\u0301 alimentaire et nutritionnelle, aux difficulte\u0301s e\u0301conomiques ge\u0301ne\u0301ralise\u0301es, aux conflits politiques lie\u0301s aux ressources, aux migrations irre\u0301gulie\u0300res et ille\u0301gales et aux difficulte\u0301s sociales. Soumise a\u0300 de graves changements climatiques et a\u0300 la de\u0301gradation de l\u2019environnement et fortement de\u0301pendante de l\u2019agriculture et de l\u2019e\u0301levage, la re\u0301gion est sujette aux phe\u0301nome\u0300nes extre\u0302mes et persistants que sont les se\u0301cheresses et les inondations.<\/p>

L\u2019atte\u0301nuation des effets de la se\u0301cheresse et de la de\u0301gradation de l\u2019environnement, l\u2019augmentation de la production agricole, la gestion durable des ressources naturelles et la protection de l\u2019environnement font partie des priorite\u0301s de la re\u0301gion. L\u2019ICPAC, par l\u2019interme\u0301diaire du projet GMES & Africa, assure la re\u0301silience des moyens de subsistance et soutient la croissance e\u0301conomique de la re\u0301gion.<\/p>

With severe climatic changes and environmental degradation and heavily dependent on agriculture and livestock, the region is prone to persistent extremes of severe droughts and flooding.<\/p>

Mitigating the effects of drought and environmental degradation, boosting agricultural production, sustainable management of natural resources and protecting the environment are part of the region\u2019s priorities.
