GESTION DE L’EAU ET DES RESSOURCES NATURELLES EN AFRIQUE CENTRALE (GERNAC)
Avec ses ressources en eau et ses richesses naturelles, l’Afrique centrale est une région où la gestion de ces ressources est inadéquate, ce qui entraîne une dégradation de l’environnement et des problèmes socio-économiques. La mission du projet GERNAC est de relever ces défis en améliorant la surveillance et la gestion de l’eau et des ressources naturelles dans la région. Grâce au renforcement des capacités, à la sensibilisation et à la formation, le projet envisage de donner aux parties prenantes les moyens de gérer ces ressources de manière durable, contribuant ainsi au développement socio-économique de l’Afrique centrale.
Responsable du Consortium : Commission Internationale du Bassin Congo- Oubangui-Sangha (CICOS) – Congo.
Orientation : L’objectif général est de surveiller les principaux impacts liés aux variations des zones inondées dans la Cuvette centrale sur le ruissellement, le changement climatique et la biodiversité. Les trois champs d’application principaux sont les suivants:
- Surveillance des ressources en eau, notamment de l’évolution des niveaux d’eau pour la navigation fluviale ;
- Suivi du bilan hydrologique des sous-bassins de la région d’Afrique centrale ;
- Contrôle de la dynamique des zones inondées sous les forêts de la Cuvette centrale.

SUSTAINABLE WETLANDS AND FLOOD MANAGEMENT IN WEST AFRICA (GDZHIAO)
Central Africa is a region with abundant water and natural resources. However, managing these resources has been inadequate, resulting in environmental degradation and socio-economic challenges. The GERNAC project aims to address these challenges by improving the region’s monitoring and management of water and natural resources. Through capacity building, awareness raising, and training, the project seeks to empower stakeholders to manage these resources sustainably, ultimately contributing to the socio-economic development of Central Africa.
Consortium Leader: International Commission for the Congo-Oubangui-Sangha Basin (CICOS) – Congo.
Focus: The general objective is to monitor the main impacts of the dynamics of flooded areas in the Central Cuvette on runoff, climate change and biodiversity. The three main applications are:
- Monitoring of water resources, with particular emphasis on the evolution of water levels for river navigation;
- Monitoring the hydrological balance of the sub-basins of the Central African region;
- Monitoring the dynamics of flooded areas under the forests of the Central Cuvette.

Monitoring Water Levels to Enhance River Navigation in the Congo Basin for Shipowners, Captains, and Local River Operators
The Congo Basin spans approximately 4 million km2, with 62% located in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). This vast territory houses one of
